Check access before sorting

Ask management about elevator reservations, loading zones, door-propping rules, and approved work hours. Measure bulky pieces against doorways and stair turns before deciding how they will leave the unit.

Make four clear groups

Separate items into keep, sell or give away, remove, and undecided. Keep the undecided group small and set a decision deadline before moving day. Do not mix documents, medication, keys, or valuables into removal piles.

Build the pickup list

Count bulky pieces and note stairs, long carries, elevator access, parking limits, and anything that may need disassembly. Photos can help explain volume, but the service must be able to receive them before you rely on that option.

Protect the final walkthrough

Check closets, balcony storage, cabinets, and the area behind appliances. Keep cleaning supplies and anything needed for the inspection separate until the last pass.

Quick checklist

  • Lease and building rules checked
  • Elevator or loading time reserved
  • Bulky items measured
  • Keep and removal piles separated
  • Closets and storage spaces checked

Before you schedule

Use the checklist to describe the job, then confirm accepted material, access, price, timing, and the exact areas included. A submitted description or phone conversation is not a confirmed appointment until the operator accepts it.
